Welcome to TC301 website

The preservation of monuments and historic sites is one of the most challenging problems facing modern civilization. It involves in inextricable patterns various cultural, human, social, technical and economic aspects. The complexity of the topic is such that a shared framework of reference is still lacking among art historians, architects and engineers.

About us

TC301 (Technical Committee on the Preservation of Historic Sites of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, ISSMGE) is an international technical committee intended to provide a forum to share information, discuss and even propose possible solutions to geotechnical issues related to the preservation of monuments and historic sites, with the following two main aims:

  • to promote and diffuse the culture of conservation within the geotechnical community;
  • to establish a connection with experts from different cultural areas, to highlight the role geotechnical engineering has in understanding and solving the possible pathologies of old structures and sites.
